Srovnání citlivosti letokruhových řad jedle bělokoré (Abies alba) a smrku ztepilého (Picea abies) vůči klimatickým parametrům
Jakubcová, Vanda
The presented thesis deals with tree ring research of the Norway spruce (Picea abies) and the European silver fir (Abies Alba) in the area of Czech State Forest (Janovice – organizational unit). The goal of the study was to create as long chronologies as possible from living trees of Norway spruce and European silver fir and compare the sensitivity of radial growth to climate parameters (average monthly/seasonal temperatures and average monthly/seasonal precipitation) between these two woody plant species. Tree cores were sampled by using Pressler borer from the selected individuals of studied tree species. The data were processed by standard dendrochronological approaches (e.g. visual and statistical synchronization, cross-dating, age-trend standardization, climate-growth response analysis). The analysis of climate-growth responses showed that high temperatures in the spring and low temperatures with available precipitation in June are key for radial growth of Norway spruce in studied site. In contrast, European silver fir showed a higher sensitivity to precipitation before the beginning of the growing season (February) and in summer (July). Both European silver fir and Norway spruce showed increasing sensitivity to high temperatures and precipitation since 1980.
Combs in the Middle Age: archaeological-cultural-historical study
Mezuliáníková, Anna ; Štefan, Ivo (advisor) ; Profantová, Naděžda (referee)
(in English) Combs are used as toilet objects for adjustment of hair and beard, or as a decoration of hairstyle all over the world. Combs have also a number of symbolical and magical significances. The aim of this work is a comprehensive view on combs as a one part of medieval material culture. The first part deals with the manufacture of medieval combs, particularly materials used for comb making, manufacturing processes, decoration, the degree of specialization of bone and antler objects manufacturing and manufactures in which bone and antler objects were produced. The second part is applied to the function of combs, evolution of hairstyles in the Middle Ages, symbolical significance and the associated magical significances of human hair and beard and different rituals connected with their cutting and combing. The core of this thesis is analysis, synthesis and interpretation of selected finds of medieval combs from what now is the territory of the Czech Republic. The aim of the analysis, synthesis and interpretation is the comparison of morphology and decoration of combs from different periods of Middle Ages. Chapters, which are devoted to chronology, morphology and typology of medieval combs and social-representational aspects of using combs are largery based on this part.
Radiální růst borovice kleče na horní hranici lesa v CHKO Jeseníky
Jakubcová, Vanda
This bachelor thesis deals with the study of the reaction of Dwarf pine to the climatic variables at the treeline ecotone. As a representative of the shrubs, the Dwarf pine (Pinus mugo Turra) was selected. At the site of Šerák-Keprník National Nature Reserve in the Protected Landscape Area of Jeseníky, wood discs from 32 individuals of Dwarf pine were taken. The discs surface were grinded and the tree ring widths were measured in the laboratory. The average age of Dwarf pine shrubs in a given location is between 70-80 years. Using 4 detrending methods (negative exponential, mean, friedman and RCS), the age trend was removed from tree ring series, and site chronology was created from the each type of detrending standardization. The resulting chronologies were correlated with climatic data (monthly temperatures, precipitation and Palmer's Drought Index) and the climate signal was analysed.. It was found that the diametr growth of Dwarf pine shrubs in a studied locality is mainly affected by the temperature during the growing season (May, June, July). The precipitation affects the growth of the Dwarf pine in the locality, especially in the autumn months (September, October). PDSI has a rather negative effect on the growth of the dwarf pine shrubs.

Jarošová, Kristina ; Pavúk, Peter (advisor) ; Bouzek, Jan (referee)
This master thesis deals with middle bronze age and late bronze age pottery from site Emporio on Chios island. The aim of the thesis is to review older excavation that was provided by British School at Athens under direction of Sinclair Hood. The focus is set on new sorting of pottery mainly from Areas D and F, description, style analysis and making new Catalogue. Important contribution is new dating of stratigraphic contexts and ceramic material as well as newly published fragments of pottery. In the following chapters author also discusses relations with areas outside Chios based on analogies of ceramic finds.
Žatec and north-western Bohemia in the 2nd Half of the 10 Century
Čech, Petr ; Sláma, Jiří (advisor) ; Macháček, Jiří (referee) ; Moždzioch, Slawomir (referee)
The present work was written following a master thesis on the settlement and the shape of the early mediaeval agglomeration of Žatec in the 9th century. Subject of this dissertation is the processing of pottery from settlement features and from the 10th -century fortification. This enabled to study the development of the fortification system and changes of the settlement structure within individual settlement components. On the basis of excavations a relative chronology of the pottery and in accordance with the dendrochronological data a hypothesis on absolute dating has been presented. In view of this new chronology a new quantitative and qualitative analysis of information on the early mediaeval strongholds and hill-top settlements of the 9th and 10th century in the central and lower Ohře Region and in the Ore Mountain foothills was undertaken. A processing of the research on Drahúš stronghold has contributed substantially to this new perspective. The 1960s opinion on the affiliation of early mediaeval strongholds on the territory in question to the tribal territory of the Lučans, which should have been opposed to the Central Bohemian Přemyslid patrimony, based on the gathered information and its analysis could have been rejected. It was possible to comprise the evaluation of the excavation at...
The origins of Bohemian Oppida: The Role of the Mediterranean and the Urbanisation processes in the European Iron Age
Kysela, Jan ; Salač, Vladimír (advisor) ; Bouzek, Jan (referee) ; Vitali, Daniele (referee)
The presented study analyses on the example of Bohemia the question in what extent the creation of oppida (and more broadly the cultural transformation of the Transalpine world in the recent La Tène period) were influenced by Mediterranean impulses and to what extent they may be on the other hand considered as a local phenomenon. The historical and chronological background are studied in detail, the question itself is approached by an analysis of the corpus of Mediterranean imports in central Europe intended to evaluate the role of Bohemia (within the central European context) in the contacts with the Mediterranean. In the concluding chapter the oppida and their settlement systems are confronted with the Mediterranean towns. The contacts with the Mediterranean turn out to have been constant and significant for the Transalpine word, the oppida, however, seem to be a largely local phenomenon. In the final part of the thesis the author summarizes problematic and presents conclusions.
Analysis of time as a narrative category in Old Norse sagas
Králová, Kristýna ; Starý, Jiří (advisor) ; Kadečková, Helena (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to set up characteristic attributes of saga time structure and with concern to these to show how the Old Norse people understood time. Main attention is concentrated on the time structure of the family sagas. First, it is shown the principal of the dating in saga and how it differs from the principal of dating in annal and chronicle. I proceed to deal with the most common time indications to appear in saga and their role in the storytelling. The focus point of this thesis is a comparison of narrated time and time of narration. To support this intention, I use the three concepts of Gerard Genette - duration, order and frequency. Based on the duration concept, I try to investigate why extensive time leaps abound in sagas and what on the other hand appears to have been given some extra author's attention. According to the order concept, a question is discussed to what extent the saga holds the chronological composition. Within the frequency concept, it is compared how many times an event occurs to how many times it is narrated. In the following chapters the time structure of the kings'sagas and the legendary sagas is discussed. The crucial difference between the time structure of these and the structure of family saga is established. There is a conclusion to each chapter,...
